The goal of Work Package 1 is to lay the foundation for understanding and evaluating various field labs in the Netherlands.
A robust knowledge ecosystem doesn't automatically translate into a thriving business environment. Work Package 3 (WP3) aims to generate a set of mechanisms for scaling innovative solutions developed in fieldlabs. It also seeks to identify tensions between economic and social values and develop a tool to mitigate these tensions.

The team begins by selecting mature fieldlabs cases, where significant progress has been achieved. The researchers collect data on events related to scaling innovative solutions from fieldlabs to businesses, as well as the involvement of various stakeholders in implementation. Based on this information, the team identifies scaling mechanisms and designs a framework to assess the collective impact generated.
Subsequently, a series of workshops are conducted to develop actionable scaling strategies based on identified mechanisms. These strategies are then tested through scenario-based simulations with coordinators from selected fieldlabs and co-funders.
The team also identifies various types of values, creates value maps and develop a framework to understand combined impacts at the level of a fieldlab, an organization, and society. With this, they prototype a tool to help stakeholders navigate conflicting values and ensure everyone contributes to societal value.
WP3 is led by Fleur Deken (VU) and executed by VU and Universiteit Twente, in collaboration with consortium partners. To engage with the scholarly community, the research team arranges a collaborative session at multiple conferences focusing on collective scaling processes.
